Building faith on the framework of God's Word

Why You Can Trust the Bible – Part 5

How Do I Build My Life on the Word of God?

(Matthew 7:24-25 MSG) “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. (25) Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit–but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

  1. You must accept its authority.

This has to do with your attitude towards God’s Word.

There are some things we just have to accept it by faith!

(1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV) And we also thank God continually because, when you received (welcomed like a stranger) the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

  1. You must assimilate its truths.

You must work it into every area of your life.

      • By listening to God’s Word.

(Romans 10:17 NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

(Luke 8:18 NIV) “Therefore consider carefully how you listen…”

      • By reading God’s Word.

(Matthew 4:4 NIV) Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”

        • Get a Bible you understand.
        • Make an appointment to read your Bible.
        • Have a reading plan.
      • By exploring God’s Word.

(Psalms 119:11 NIV) I have hidden (stored up) your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

  1. You must apply its principles.

(James 1:22 NIV) Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
